Brief History

The architects in Aklan were once affiliated with the UAP Iloilo Chapter until the UAP Capiz Chapter was established. They devoted their time and effort to traveling long hours over rough roads to attend meetings and activities in Capiz and Iloilo—all for the love of the profession and their commitment to the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP).

On May 15, 2006, the UAP Capiz Chapter sponsored the chartering of the UAP Aklan Chapter as a conditional chapter under the leadership of Chapter President Ar. Joel R. Mercurio and National President Ar. Edric Marco C. Florentino. The chapter began with only a handful of members, including Ar. Desposorio P. Magma Jr. (†), Ar. Tony R. Pelayo, Ar. Larry T. Taligatos, Ar. Rafael C. Almosa, Ar. Ramon R. Dueña Jr., Ar. Sabatinni I. Fernandez, Ar. Michelle Peralta, Ar. Francia J. Montano-Malapad, Ar. Manuel V. Torres Jr., Ar. Dave B. Relojero (†), Ar. Jonabelle Salazar, Ar. Terence Reyes, and Ar. Lara Salaver. The chartering ceremony was held at Oriental Flavors, Sampaguita Gardens, New Washington, Aklan, and was attended by architects from the National, Capiz, and Iloilo Chapters.

Since then, the UAP Aklan Chapter has remained a strong and steadfast organization, consistently undertaking projects and activities that benefit both its members and the community. Eight years after its establishment, the chapter received the Best Chapter Award in 2015, followed by the Presidential Special Award of Merit in 2019 and the Outstanding Chapter Award in 2020.

Today, the UAP Aklan Chapter is no longer a "conditional" chapter but a full-fledged chapter, composed of a growing number of members in good standing and continuing its tradition of excellence, service, and professionalism.
